Lots of great new kids’ books out today!  Here are some of my favorites:

In this beautiful, textural picture book, mice travel to a secret circus that only they know about.

Palindromania!

by Jon Agee

(Farrar, Straus, Giroux, paperback, $6.96)

I love this book! Kids will be totally amazed by how many palindromes are possible (“Salad? Alas!”).  Even the price is a palindrome!

Twilight Zone March 29, 2009

Filed under: Young Adult — kidsbookcorner @ 11:03 pm

So, as many know, I’m pretty much obsessed with Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga.  Yesterday I was elated to find that I have been immortalized into a Twilight-themed comic by my dear friend, Lucy Knisley.  Lucy is the author of French Milk, a graphic travelogue about her trip to Paris with her mother (perfect for young adults!). The comic features Lucy’s growing obsession with the series and her visit to my bookstore to satisfy her cravings. In another comic, she sums up all four books hilariously (Warning: this second comic has spoilers and is rated PG!)

Tales from Outer Suburbia

Tales from Outer Suburbia

by Shaun Tan

(Arthur A. Levine Books, hardcover, $19.99)

From the author of The Arrival comes a fascinating new book, reminiscent of Chris Van Allsburg’s The Mysteries of Harris Burdick.

Sensible Hare and the Case of Carrots

by Daren King

(Putnam, hardcover, $15.99)

In this wacky early chapter book, Sensible Hare is a detective who sets out to find a case of missing carrots for Mazy Rabbit.  Very fun, good for fans of Ottoline and the Yellow Cat.

Emmaline and the Bunny

by Katherine Hannigan

In this delightful read-aloud, little Emmaline wants a bunny.  But in her town of Neatasapin bunnies are banned because they are too messy.
