It’s my birthday today! (and there are some wonderful new books out!) Here they are:

This adaptation of a Chinese folktale is beatutifully packaged and perfect as a graduation or inspriational gift.

Swim the Fly

by Don Calame

(Candlewick Press, hardcover, $16.99)

Ages 12+

In this uproarious novel, a group of teenage boys conspire to see a real live naked girl.

A Walk in New York

by Salvatore Rubbino

(Candlewick Press, hardcover, $16.99)

Ages 5 & up

This is a beautiful new picture book that is a walking tour of New York City. Filled with facts and beautiful illustrations, this is a perfect book for New York kids and kids who just want to visit!

The Enemy: A Book About Peace

by Davide Cali & Serge Bloch

(Schwartz & Wade Books, hardcover, $15.99)

Ages 5 & up

This is an amazing new picture book that deals with war.  A soldier writes about his experiences: “The enemy is there but I have never seen him. Every morning, I shoot at him. Then he shoots at me. We both stay hidden the rest of the day, waiting.”  It is a strong introduction to themes of war and peace for younger children, but can be appreciated by both older kids and adults.
