    It is nice, plus the smackdown value is a bonus.

  2. At first I rejected this book for copying Jan Brett… until I learned that it’s actually a folk tale. I really like McClintock’s illustrations and Aylesworth’s retelling.

      I felt the same way. I was vaguely aware that the story was based on a Russian folktale, but considered it a Jan Brett book by default. I think it will be interesting for kids familiar with the older version to process the whole thing.
